Andrada Ioana Surdeanu of Romania was hit by her father after losing a match at an ITF event in Israel last week, according to reports. During an argument the 16-year-old raised her voice and was struck, which caused her a bloody nose.

Surdeanu, who was defeated in the quarterfinals of the Marshall Open in Isreal by Daria Kruzhkova, 6-2, 7-6(0), was helped by her coach after the father left (the father was later taken into custody), and was later taken to the hospital with no serious injuries revealed.

Thanks to these tweets from Alecs Stam, freelance journalist from Bucharest who covers tennis and football, we can see that a confused Surdeanu was both shocked and shamed into siding with her father after the incident:

"He didn’t hit me before,” Surdeanu says. “Now he has restrictions and is no longer allowed to go with me to the tournaments. With whom should I go now? How can I become Simona Halep?”

Read a detailed transcript of her comments embedded in Stam's tweets below:

The story, for better or for worse, has already hit the front pages in Romania:
