"Saturday Night Live" has always had a great relationship with the game of tennis, from hosting stints by Andy Roddick and Chris Evert to former cast member Nora Dunne's eerily familiar impersonation of Martina Navratilova.
The NBC variety show was back at it last Saturday night when cast member Kate McKinnon appeared on the "Weekend Update" segment as WTA legend Billie Jean King to discuss her appointment to the US Olympic representation for the upcoming Winter games in Sochi, Russia.
King's appointment by President Barack Obama is viewed by many as a protest against Russia's strict anti-homosexual laws.
With her hair and eyewear giving McKinnon a strong resemblance to the 70-year-old King, the 29-year-old comedienne won the crowd to her favor early by announcing, "I'm President Obama's big gay middle finger and this bird's about to be flipped. I'm gonna drive my Subaru Outback into Red Square doing donuts and blasting Melissa Etheridge."
Joking about her trademark glasses and her narrow demographic as a "70-year-old lesbian," McKinnon closed with a personal address to her commander in chief.
"President Obama, I know you don't want to go to Sochi, but if that mole rat Putin sends me to the Gulag, you're going to have to come bail me out. Or better yet, send Navratilova and the cast of 'Orange is the New Black', they'll know what to do."
