TIME FRAME: Pieces must have been published by an independent media outlet (print/online) in 2009.

 

CATEGORIES

 

·         GAME STORY—PRO: Live single-day coverage of an event. (WTA, ATP, Davis Cup, Fed Cup, Olympics, Pro Wheelchair, etc.)

·         GAME STORYAMATEUR: Live single-day coverage of an event. (Includes collegiate tennis, national tournaments, high performance juniors, adult leagues, community tennis, etc.)

·         FEATUREPRO: Article devoted to a single subject and conveying depth not explored in other categories.

·         FEATURENON-PRO: Article devoted to a single subject and conveying depth not explored in other categories. (Profile, etc.)

·         HARD NEWS/ENTERPRISE: Coverage of a breaking off-court development.

·         SERVICE: Instruction article or a how-to story.

·         COLUMN/COMMENTARY: Opinion or analysis piece.

Note: Entries may be switched to another category at discretion of judges.

 

ELIGIBILITY OF ENTRIES

Contest is open to all writers. There is a LIMIT OF TWO ENTRIES PER CATEGORY FOR EACH WRITER. For instance, a writer may submit two entries for SERVICE and two entries for FEATURE-PRO and two entries for COLUMN/COMMENTARY.

ENTRY FEES

USTWA Members: No fee.

Non-Members: $5 per entry.

FORMATTING OF ENTRIES

Writers must submit the Entry Form on the following page and two b/w photocopies of each article on 8.5"x11” paper. Do NOT send color copies. Entries that don't conform will be disqualified.

 

JUDGING                                                               

A panel reviews entries, which are stripped of all identifying marks and given numerical designations for anonymity.

AWARDS AND PRESENTATION

Judges recognize 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each category. Engraved awards are provided for 1st and 2nd  place winners; certificates of achievement are presented for 3rd place finishes. A category must have at least eight stories submitted for a fair contest to be judged.
