Second Serve - A Tennis Now Blog

Second Serve

Many have been saying that Nadal is on the decline, but his performance at the Davis Cup proves otherwise.

For the past couple of years, people have been doubting Nadal's abilities. Plagued by injuries, some say he's a mere shadow of his old self.

In an impressive showing, Nadal conquered Tomas Berdych in straight sets-- 7-5 6-0 6-2.

He started off 2009 strong with a win at the Australian Open. The rest of the year didn't go as well for him, though. It seemed like he always had a shot, but he just couldn't scale the summit. And that's why many had begun to say that he's on his way out.

I'm not personally too much of a fan of Nadal myself, but I have to admit that I underestimated him. I counted myself among the ranks of those who thought he was slowly on the way out. He's definitely changed my mind, though.

Maybe it's his aeropro drive.

Or maybe it's just sheer spirit.
