The 22-time major champion has withdrawn, and will be replaced by American Mackenzie McDonald in the main draw.

2010, 2013, 2017 and 2019 champion Nadal last played the Open in 2022, when he lost to Frances Tiafoe in the round of 16. He has compiled a 67-12 record at the event overall

"I have decided not to compete at this year’s US Open a place where I have amazing memories," Nadal wrote on X. "I will miss those electric and special night sessions in NYC at Ashe, but I don’t think I would be able to give my 100 percent this time."

"Rafa is a tremendous champion and he will be missed during the 2024 US Open by the fans and all those associated with the tournament,” said US Open tournament director Stacy Allaster in a statement. “We wish him all the best and look forward to having him back at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center."

38-year-old Nadal is 12-7 overall in 2024, and most recently lost in the round of 32 at the Paris Olympics to Novak Djokovic. The Spaniard is scheduled to play the Laver Cup in Berlin this year, which will be held on the weekend of Sep 20-22.
