In a wide-ranging interview with Self, Serena directly addresses body shamers, including Russian Tennis Federation President Shamil Tarpischev, who called the Williams sisters "the Williams brothers" in an interview on Russian television in 2014.

Tarpischev, who was fined $25,000 by the WTA and banned from tour involvement for a year for questioning the sisters' gender, later apologized for his remark.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion tells Self she is comfortable with her body.

“I love my body, and I would never change anything about it,” she says. “I’m not asking you to like my body. I’m just asking you to let me be me. Because I’m going to influence a girl who does look like me, and I want her to feel good about herself.”

Williams, who won her seventh Wimbledon crown last month, aims to defend her gold medals in singles and doubles at the Rio Olympics. Venus and Serena have won an Olympic tennis record four gold medals apiece.

Regaining her confidence after major setbacks to Roberta Vinci, Angelique Kerber and Garbine Muguruza, Williams is aiming to rebrand the summer.

“This is my heart,” Williams tells Self. “This is my blood. I live for this and have for the last 32 years. When I step out on the court, you’re going to get all of me.

"It’s going to be the summer of Serena. I know it.”

So what's Serena's post-tennis future?

Williams says she sees herself in five years time as a working mom designing her latest collection, trashing  her passport and globetrotting past to pursue domestic bliss on an island.

“In five years, I’m on a boat or an island, sketching the latest collection. Maybe there’s a baby, maybe a couple, we’ll see. I’m done traveling—I’m throwing away my passport,” Serena tells the magazine. “Yeah, I’m done with it.”
