Second Serve

A last-second withdrawal by Jiri Vesely gave Novak Djokovic the day off and left a giant hole in the Day 3 schedule on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Not to worry—LaMonf to the rescue (see outrageous video above).

Gael Monfils put on a shotmaking clinic during his 7-5, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Czech Jan Satral, and when it was done the fans were more than satisfied.

How could they not be?

After the match, Tennis Now asked Monfils who his favorite shotmaker was—besides himself of course. "I like to watch Dustin Brown as a shotmaker, I like to watch Roger,” he said. “Sometimes, I can't even explain (the shotmaking). Sometimes instinct takes over and I just do it. "I do it because I want to do it. That's the nature of it. People like it, then you know, that's good. I think I really like the court here and the crowd is always very supportive and here and it pushes me a lot."

Monfils victory sets up a third-round encounter with Spain’s Nicolas Almagro. After No. 5 seed Milos Raonic fell to Ryan Harrison on Day 3, there isn’t a single seeded player standing between Monfils and the quarterfinals.

Can the magical mystery tour capitalize on a golden opportunity in New York?

Here's another look at Gael's party...
