Second Serve - A Tennis Now Blog

Second Serve

We posted this on our Cincinnati Live Blog on Wednesday, but have quickly realized that Roger Federer’s new Mercedes advertisement requires a post all of its own.

“There are those who arrive at the scene and change the game forever,” says narrator Bill Macatee. “This is the story of one such icon.”

Sounds serious, doesn’t it? And sounds just like Federer. Oh, but it is not serious. What follows (see video above) is a hilarious comedic romp that features Federer doing his best Ile Nastase and Andre Agassi imitations.

“He was the rock star of the tennis world,” says Macatee.

Uh-huh.

This skillfully and joyously produced video even features a cameo from the one and only Rod Laver. "The kid amazed me with his speed, his finesse and that car. Oh I remember that car," says Laver, as the video cuts to Federer driving down the Champs-Élysées in a convertible with a gorgeous companion at his side. Brilliant!

Macatee finishes: “Because true performance is timeless.”

Yep, Roger that.
