The French Tennis Federation has provisionally suspended Benoit Paire, Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic, pending a hearing in late September.

The three athletes competed for France at the Rio Olympics.

The Federations said that Paire broke team rules by staying away from the Olympic Village or coming back late, and he also made dismissive comments about the importance of the Olympic Games because there are no ranking points on offer.

Mladenovic and Garcia took issue with the Federation over a clothing mix-up in Rio. They said that they were not informed by officials that they needed to wear the same colors for their doubles matches.

Reportedly Mladenovic blasted the FFT, calling it incompetent and blaming it for ruining their first-round match.

The FFT countered by saying that the actions of all three players showed an “unacceptable attitude.” A final decision on the fate of the three is to be made on September 24.

This means that Paire is ruled out of France’s Davis Cup semifinal with Croatia, to be played on September 16-18. Garcia and Mladenovic, France’s two most important Fed Cup players, still hope to play November’s final against the Czechs at Strasbourg.
