After pushing Serena Williams to the brink in the first set of their Bank of the West Classic semifinal on Saturday, Andrea Petkovic get bageled in the second set. But, even so, that didn’t stop Petkovic from winning the point of the match in the third game of the second set.
Control of this topsy-turvy point changes hands several times until Williams, seemingly in position for the easy smash, elects to go with the swing volley and deposits it into the net. That leaves both players gasping for air and forces Petko to seek solace while leaning against the back wall.
Williams went on to win the title on Sunday, which is her third Stanford title, and 61st overall.
