It has been a long time coming for Ireland’s James McGee.

Six years after turning pro, the 27-year-old has made his way into his first Grand Slam main draw at this year’s U.S Open, after securing a come-from-behind win over China’s Ze Zhang, 0-6, 6-4, 6-4.



Ireland’s No. 1 had attempted to qualify at four other Grand Slams previously, and the closest he had gotten was reaching the final stage at this year’s French Open. But on Friday, on his fifth match point, McGee saw the realization of a lifelong dream come to fruition, and he let it all out in this emotional celebration, captured by former ATP pro and friend Jeff Salzenstein:
