Grigor Dimitrov was given a huge opportunity on Friday at the Rogers Cup, as Kevin Anderson missed four consecutive forehands while serving for the match at the back end of the third set.

Simply put, Dimitrov took it.

Watch as the Bulgarian hits this gorgeous, improbable, seeing-eye backhand past Anderson for a winner at a crucial juncture of their third set tiebreaker. Dimitrov, somehow, demonstrates the presence of mind to alter his swing just enough to take the ball flat instead of trying to hit topspin.

It’s actually an awkward-looking adjustment, but given the amount of time that he had (very little) and how far he had to stretch to make the shot, it was the best choice for Dimitrov. The result? An absolute dagger into the heart of Anderson.

Could shots like this have something to do with the fact that Grigor Dimitrov has now won his last nine deciding-set tiebreakers, dating back to Bangkok 2012? We think so.

Dimitrov would go on to take the breaker and advance to his second Masters 1000 semifinal of the season. He now owns a record of 14-2 in matches that have gone the distance this season.
