After it was initally reported that Rafael Nadal would make a decision this week regarding his US Open status, the decision has now been pushed to next week.
Nadal, who was the defending champion at both the Rogers Cup and Western & Southern Open, suffered an injury to his wrist in practice following Wimbledon and was forced to withdraw from all tournaments he entered in the lead-up to the year's final major. Nadal had been practicing at home in Mallorca while wearing a splint, and Dr. Angel Ruiz Cotorro, Nadal's doctor, said the following to the Spanish-language publication Marca.
"The images showed what we expected to see," he said. "I am neither optimistic nor pessimistic, I'm realistic."
"If it has healed I'll have to try and see how I feel when I train and on Friday or at latest Saturday a decision will be made," Nadal said, according to a report by sbs.com earlier this week.
However, Nadal's public relations manager, Benito Perez-Barbadillo, tweeted early Friday that plans had changed.
Nadal is also the defending champion at the US Open, which begins August 25th.
