Rafael Nadal is officially on the comeback trail. The five-time Madrid champion has announced that he will take his place in this year’s draw.
“I really want to play and play at home since the opportunities are few,” Nadal said on Twitter. “To try to do it in the best possible way.”
Nadal has been out since he picked up a stress fracture in his rib at Indian Wells. The injury originated during his semifinal with Carlos Alcaraz. Nadal then played the final and lost to Taylor Fritz before heading back to Spain for rehab.
Nadal owns a 54-13 lifetime record at Madrid – he last won the title in 2017.
