Carlos Alcaraz cracks a huge rankings milestone just a week shy of his 19th birthday. The rising Spanish talent, fresh off of his fourth career title in Barcelona on Sunday, rises to No.9 in the ATP rankings, becoming the ninth youngest ATP player to ever crack the Top-10.
Alcaraz, who improved to 23-3 on the season by defeating Pablo Carreno Busta in the final in Barcelona, achieved the impressive feat 17 years after Rafael Nadal, who won the Barcelona final in 2005 and made his Top-10 debut at No.7 in the world on the following day, April 25, 2005.
“I’m glad to know that at 18 I’m in the top 10, and doing it on the same date as my idol Rafa is impressive,” he told reporters on Sunday, before telling reporters that his goals are much higher.
“I don’t have any limits, I don’t want to set any,” Alcaraz said on Sunday. “I want to continue playing at the level I have and I think that if I continue like this I have many options to continue climbing. I want to continue enjoying myself on the court, I still don’t want to touch the ceiling.”
Alcaraz, who rose two spots from No.11 to No.9, pushed Cameron Norrie out of the Top-10 today.
There were not many significant moves in the rankings last week, but there are several new career-high rankings being set.
