Alcaraz, Hurkacz Face Off In Athens Exhibition


Carlos Alcaraz and Hubert Hurkacz brought their Miami magic to Athens this week.

The pair staged a rematch of their pulsating Miami Open semifinal before a packed crowd at the at IMG Future Stars Invitational Tennis Tournament.

The event at the prestigious TATOΪ Club in Athens Greece this week. The invitational tournament is for the next generation of tennis professionals, their parents and coaches.

Hurkacz won the eight-game exhibition set after Alcaraz's huge win at the Barcelona Open last weekend. Miami Open champion Alcaraz joked with the crowd that he needed to hit the ball harder, while Hurkacz wowed the crowd with trick shots and drop shots.

Following the eight-game set, Alcaraz and Hurkacz took partners for a quick doubles match with some of the young athletes from the IMG Future Stars Tournament. Team Hubi took the victory.

The inaugural tournament consists of 48-players under 12 (24 boys, 24 girls) allowing the next generation of tennis to come together like never before and play the best from across the globe. In addition to the tournament, attendees will hear keynote addresses from executives at the WTA, ATP, Nike, evian, IMG and more, and participate in workshops with world-renowned athletes and coaches and other educational and fun activities programmed by event producers IMG and TATOΪ Club, to help prepare the next generation of tennis professionals. Official apparel partner, Nike, will outfit the competitors and participate in programming throughout the week.

Official broadcast partner Tennis Channel is airing the matches internationally on its Tennis Channel International streaming service, marking the first time a tournament of players under the age of 12 will be broadcast this widely. Center court matches will be broadcast live in the United States on the network’s streaming service, Tennis Channel Plus.

Young players from around the world submitted application videos, to apply be among the lucky few invited to attend this weeklong tennis extravaganza.

The winner of both the boys’ and girls’ tournaments will receive invitations to the prestigious Eddie Herr International Junior Championship (under 14 age group) later that year, at the renowned IMG Academy, in Bradenton, Florida.

Tickets are still on sale for the tournament’s semifinals and finals, happening Saturday, April 30th and Sunday, May 1st here. Tickets are €10 a day.
