Australia’s Casey Dellacqua has announced her retirement. The 33-year-old will hang up her racquets as the No.9-ranked doubles player in the world. She wants to spend more time with her two children, Blake and Andie.
“It’s something that I’ve been thinking about for a while now,” said Dellacqua in a Facebook video. “I definitely feel like it’s the right time for me to hang up the racquets—it’s time for me to be a mom and it’s time for me to spend time with my family while my kids are young. It’s a precious time in life and I really feel like it’s a time where I want to be at home with my family.”
Dellacqua has been to the doubles final of all four Grand Slams, and reached seven Grand Slam doubles finals overall. She reached a ranking of No.3 in the world.
In Singles Dellacqua topped out at No.26, and made the second week of the Australian Open in 2008 and 2014.
She won the Roland Garros mixed doubles title in 2011 with American Scott Lipsky.
“If there’s one thing that I’m going to miss about playing professional tennis it’s playing for Australia. It’s always the highlight of my career and I’ll always cherish, having those memories and representing my country.”
Dellacqua played 21 ties for the green and gold and had a 19-9 record, including 13-4 in singles.
