Well, we can’t say Eugenie Bouchard didn’t deserve it. A day after refusing to shake the hand of her opponent Alexandra Dulgheru at the Fed Cup draw ceremony, the Romanian got her revenge in the form of a 6-4, 6-4 tie-opening victory—and she and teammates had some fun with it afterwards (see video above).

Handshakegate: Bouchard Shies Away from Fed Cup Handshake

Dulgheru seemed to take the incident lightly when it happened on Friday, but on Saturday she admitted that it help her get pumped up to play well.

According to Canadian journalist Arash Madani, Dulgheru says her bit of tomfoolery with her team after the win was nothing personal against Bouchard:

Bouchard’s bad luck continued on Sunday when she was dispatched by world No. 104 Andreea Mitu, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Dulgheru then battled past Francoise Abanda in three sets to bring Romania back to the World Group.

Meanwhile, a disappointed Bouchard has pulled out of Stuttgart and plans to play Madrid next. She has now gone 2-5 since reaching the quarterfinals of this year’s Australian Open, and three of those losses have come to players outside of the Top 100.
