Queen's Club Picked to Host U.K. Davis Cup Tie

Great Britain and their Davis Cup team are hoping grass courts will give them the edge in their upcoming Davis Cup quarterfinal versus France.

Queen's Club, which holds the annual Wimbledon warm-up tournament, will be the site of the upcoming tie in July.

"Queen's will be a perfect venue for our quarter-final match against France," Andy Murray, U.K No.1, said about the decision to BBC.com. "I've been playing at Queen's for 10 years now so I feel very at home there, as do the rest of the British team, so it's a great choice."

Great Britain has not hosted a Davis Cup quarterfinal on home soil since 1986. That tie was held at Wimbledon and saw the host team lose to Australia 4-1.

Murray, who led his team to a 3-2 win over the U.S. last month in Glasgow, earlier expressed a preference of playing on grass against the always deep French squad.

"The grass courts at Queen's are some of the best in the world and our team will look to use the courts and the passionate home crowd to full advantage," U.K. captain Leon Smith said. "The atmosphere and crowd support will be vital."

A win over France would place Great Britain into the Davis Cup semifinals for the first time since 1981. If they advance, they will face the winner of the Australia versus Kazakhstan tie in September.
