Why is Tommy Robredo tied with Nicolas Almagro for third on the ATP's active clay-court win list? Because of absurdly good movement like this:
Robredo, 31, was one of the big stories of last year's French Open when he came from two sets down in three consecutive matches to reach the quarterfinals.
Could he have more surprises in store in 2014? If he keeps making plays like this, we say yes.
Robredo's 6-4, 6-1 victory over David Goffin in Monte-Carlo today improves the Spaniard's all-time clay-court record to 236-105. That's good for fifth in winning percentage among active players, behind only Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and David Ferrer.
Robredo will face either Julien Benneteau or Jurgen Melzer in the second round at Monte-Carlo. As good as Robredo is on clay, he's only been to the quarterfinals once in the Principality (2006).
