No. 9 seed Ana Ivanovic had little trouble against Germany's Sabine Lisicki in their first round match at the Porsche Grand Prix in Stuttgart on Wednesday.
Despite it being the first match on clay for Ivanovic, that proved not to be a factor for the former French Open champion. Ivanovic used her trademark forehand to wrap up the opening set in just 25 minutes.
Though Lisicki would mount a brief comeback in the second set, it wasn't enough to stop Ivanovic advancing 6-1, 6-3.
Ivanovic will next face another German in Julia Goerges. A former winner of the event in 2011, Goerges beat Sorana Cirstea 6-1, 7-5.
Stuttgart fans also only got a brief glimpse of another local favorite Andrea Petkovic. Fresh off helping her Fed Cup team advance into this year's final last weekend, Petkovic took on Italy's Flavia Pennetta.
Though each split the first two sets, it was Pennetta who walked away with the 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 win.
Another Italian, No 8 seed Sara Errani, also won earlier in the day 6-3, 6-3 over Kaia Kanepi.
