Second Serve - A Tennis Now Blog

Second Serve

As we covered last month, Bernard Tomic now has the unfortunate distinction of being the loser in the quickest tennis match in recorded history on the ATP Tour. Jarkko Nieminen disposed of Tomic in just 28 minutes and 20 seconds, 6-0, 6-1.

If it’s any consolation for Team Tomic, it isn’t the fastest recorded beat-down of all time. Fellow Australian Margaret Court won the 1963 Eastern Grass Court Championships in 24 minutes, but Suzanne Lenglen holds the all-time "official" record. She beat Molla Mallory in 23 minutes in the 1922 Wimbledon final.

The infograph below by TennisDrillsHQ.com lists the shortest tennis matches in history for both the men’s and ladies’ tours and takes a closer look at the rare Grand Slam triple bagel on the men’s side. The 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 match has only occurred six times, but it happened on three separate occasions in 1987.
