Andy Murray 's newest business investment opened its doors on April 1, no fooling.
The Cromlix hotel, a refurbished Victorian mansion located a meager three miles from Murray's own domicile officially opened for business this week, even as Murray himself slipped in the ATP polls to his lowest ranking (No. 8) since 2008.
The Cromlix has 15 rooms, tennis courts (of course), a lawn for croquet and an Albert Roux restaurant, as well as a close-by loch, a vegetable and herb garden spread across 34 acres.
The hotel was due for permanent closure in 2013 before Murray bought it for £2 million ($3.3 million). His mother and off-and-on coach, Judy Murray, is serving as a consultant for the hotel, staying in each of the rooms to look for potential problems.
Murray's girlfriend Kim Sears also took part in the redesign, helping Kathleen Fraser design the redone interiors. Murray himself has taken the task of naming the rooms after his Scottish heroes, hence the opportunity to stay in the Annie Lennox or the Sean Connery.
The Murray family already had a history with the hotel prior to Andy's purchase - brother Jamie was married there in 2010.
The Daily Telegraph's hotel expert reviewer gave the Cromlix an eight out of 10 score. Rooms begin at £250/night, with breakfast included. Reservations are already completely sold out for the week of Christmas and New Year.
