Playing in a championship tennis match is stressful enough, but when you have to worry about your toupee falling off it takes the stress to a whole new level. According to Andre Agassi, this was the very cause of his loss at the French Open in 1990. Apparently Andre could feel the toupee slipping with each consecutive hit and was fearful that the piece would fall off revealing his balding head. The fear of defeat is enough to psychologically affect any athlete, but for Andre there was a much greater fear.
Andre revealed his secret hairpiece worries in his new book, Open which reveals much more than just hair loss blunders. Another shocking aspect of Agassi's life is that he used crystal meth in the late 1990's and lied to the ATP after failing a random drug test. I wonder what secrets other Tennis Greats are keeping from the public? I'm sure other tennis players have plenty of dirty laundry, but you probably won't hear about it until after they are finished with their career. Image plays a huge part in an athlete's ability to obtain endorsements and keeping those endorsements. However, once a former pro can't perform anymore they have to make money some other way.
Agassi had some interesting stories to tell and plenty of gossip, so he wrote an autobiography. Who knows what he'll do next...maybe a Rogaine commercial?
