Second Serve

By Nick Georgandis

England and India are intricately tied through their histories. Now the All England Tennis Club is reaching out to the second-largest country in the world in an attempt to better the sport there.

The Wimbledon Foundation has launched The Road to Wimbledon in India, which will sponsor two National 14 and Under events in January 2014, one each in Delhi and Mumbai, followed by a Junior Masters in April, the finalists of which will play in the UK National Finals at Wimbledon next August.

The move is made in conjunction with the All India Tennis Association. The Foundation will also hold a number of educational tennis clinics in Mumbai and Delhi, spearheaded by Don Bloxman, the All England Club's head coach.

Officers of the British Army introduced tennis to India in the 1880s. The All India Tennis Association got its start in 1920.
