TGA Premier Youth Tennis (TGA) awarded a new tennis franchise in California to Mike Lipsey, a former Silicon Valley semiconductor executive.
Lipsey’s franchise, located in the San Jose and lower San Francisco peninsula area, is the sixth tennis franchise in the state of California and the 25th franchise developed nationwide in just over 24-months.
TGA’s innovative school-based activation model and tennis enrichment curriculum was developed in partnership with the United States Tennis Association (USTA). The program introduces the sport in schools and supports the USTA’s “10-and-Under Tennis” initiative before transitioning them to USTA programs, tennis facilities and USPTA Professionals nationwide.
“TGA offers a unique business model which enables my passion to also be my career. I am very excited to have this opportunity to bring the sport of tennis to schools and impact local youth through the character development themes that TGA emphasizes,” Lipsey said.
Lipsey spent 25 years as an executive in the semiconductor industry overseeing global supply chains, and most recently worked as a supply chain consultant. In 2007 he semi-retired and for the last five years has been working with underserved youth in the Silicon Valley as well as Liberia in West Africa.
Lipsey, who played competitive tennis in high school and still plays in USTA adult leagues, recognized a great post-retirement career opportunity with TGA that involved his passion of tennis and working with youth.
“TGA offers the unique advantage of taking the opportunity to learn tennis directly to schools,” he said. “Once students progress through the five-level after-school curriculum there are well-articulated pathways to further their development and love of the sport.”
TGA Premier Youth Tennis of Silicon Valley is expected to engage thousands of participants by introducing the sport of tennis to children at elementary and middle schools, child care centers and community based organizations through a multi-level instruction curriculum that enriches young people’s lives through physical fitness, health and nutrition, education and character building.
