We may have already traded in the All England Club grass for the hard courts of the US Open Series, but this Wimbledon infographic caught our attention. It tracks the prize money for the women’s winners from the start of the Open Era in 1968. Rod Laver and Billie Jean King hoisted trophies that year, earning $3,414.23 and $1,280.34 respectively. It would take another 39 years before Wimbledon joined the rest of the Slams by offering equal prize money for both men and women. Just weeks ago, Novak Djokovic and Petra Kvitova banked $3,004,522.40 for their Wimbledon victories, further highlighting the surge in tennis prize money over the past 50 years.
