Jelena Jankovic’s Epic Grand Slam Streak Will End in January

<![CDATA[The former World No.1 and U.S. runner-up will miss the first major of the 2018 season, and maybe more.]]>

Ai Sugiyama’s consecutive Grand Slam streak is safe for at least another four years. Jelena Jankovic has withdrawn from the 2018 Australian Open, ending a streak of 56 consecutive Grand Slam played, leaving her six majors short of Ai Sugiyama's all-time WTA record. The former World No.1 has been plagued by injuries of late and her future in professional tennis is very much in doubt.

The 32-year-old has not played since last year’s U.S. Open and is currently plagued by a back injury. She is currently ranked 159 in the world after going 9-19 in 2017. She did not reach a single quarterfinal in 2017 and went 0-9 vs. the Top 25. Agnieszka Radwanska, who has now played 46 consecutive majors, takes the WTA’s active lead in consecutive Grand Slam singles played. ]]>
