Zverev Unties an Umpire’s Shoe, and Yes it Was Funny
When an ump gives you heck, untie his shoe. 😂#RolexPMasters pic.twitter.com/N1cTWANHUl
— Tennis TV (@TennisTV) November 1, 2017It was not Alexander Zverev’s day in Paris. First he got into a row with umpire Carlos Bernardes about a call on the court. Zverev made a pick-up on a dropper by Robin Haase but Bernardes ruled the ball had bounced twice. The back-and-forth between Bernardes and Zverev soon hit upon another topic—the German’s Richard Mille watch. Bernardes did’t want the German to keep his watch on display next to his changeover chair; Zverev said that his sponsor pays him to keep it there, where it can be seen.Bernardes would not be deterred, and eventually Zverev gave up and put the watch in his bag. But before it was all over the 20-year-old had the last laugh. On the way back to the court he reached over and untied Bernardes’ shoe, then laughed somewhat gleefully as he headed to the baseline.Score, Zverev.Haase won the match, however, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.We hope that Zverev and Bernardes meet again at the World Tour Finals in London. ]]>
