Boisson Beats Bondar to Win Hamburg Title

Lois Boisson’s breakthrough season keeps getting better.

Riding her heavy topspin forehand, Boisson Anna Bondar of Hungary 7-5, 6-3 to collect her maiden WTA title at the Hamburg Ladies Open today.

Facing a 4-0 deficit, Boisson began to find her range and rhythm. Boisson burst through seven of the next eight games to snatch a one-set lead

The fifth-seeded Frenchwoman was down 3-1 in the second set but responded with another rousing rally. Boisson won six games in a row to capture the clay-court championship and her first Tour-level title.

It comes six weeks after the then world No. 361 made history at her home slam at Roland Garros.

French wild card Boisson scored the biggest upset of the 2025 Roland Garros draw shocking third-seeded Jessica Pegula 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, to reach her maiden Roland Garros quarterfinal and send French fans into frenzy last month.

Playing her maiden Grand Slam, Boisson was the lowest-ranked woman to reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal since the 2017 US Open when No. 418 Kaia Kanepi did it. Boisson became the first Frenchwoman to reach the French Open quarterfinals since doubles partners Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic each did it back in 2017.

All this from a woman who was rehabbing an ACL injury last season, did not launch her comeback until February and arrived in Paris as a 500 to 1 longshot to win Roland Garros before the tournament began.

Now, Boisson continues her summer thrill ride as a WTA tournament champion.
