Unbreakable on serve, Hubert Hurkacz battled into his 13th career final today.
Hurkacz saved all three break points he faced dispatching Denis Shapovalov 6-7(8), 6-3, 6-3 to advance to his first final of the season at the Chengdu Open.
The 29-year-old Pole will play for his ninth career championship tomorrow against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
Earlier, the second-seeded Spaniard rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over hard-hitting qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili. The 34-year-old Basilashvili was bidding to become the oldest finalist in Chengdu Open history.
Davidovich Fokina, who captured his maiden Tour-level title on the grass courts of Mallorca last June, will play for his second career title in his seventh final.
Overall, Davidovich Fokina leads Hurkacz 4-2 in their head-to-head series, including winning three of their four prior hard-court clashes.
Today, the 2021 Miami Open champion Hurkacz rode a stinging serve into his first final since the 2025 Geneva tournament. Hurkacz served 64 percent, won 85 percent of first-serve points and saved all three break points he faced.
Hurkacz continued his master of former Wimbledon semifinalist Shapovalov, defeating the left-handed Canadian for the sixth time in seven meetings.
