Djokovic Documentary Coming to Prime in August

A Wolf in Winter is coming to the big screen this summer. 

Prime Video has officially released the trailer for its highly anticipated feature-length documentary, NOVAK DJOKOVIC: The Wolf in Winter. Scheduled to premiere globally on August 20, the film offers a deep dive into the life and career of the 24-time major champion.

A serial rewriter of the record books, Djokovic went from disruptor to dominator over the course of his legendary career, which is still going strong with the Serbian icon approaching 40. 

But there was a time when he was thought of as an interloper, treading on the territory of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Years later, he has surpassed both in most important statistical categories, and he had a winning record against both.

Directed by Jason Hehir, known for The Last Dance, a critically acclaimed 10-episode documentary on Michael Jordan, the World in Winter focuses on 24-time major champion Djokovic’s journey from a childhood in war-torn Serbia to the pinnacle of professional sports. Rather than a standard highlight reel, the film explores his position as a complex figure in tennis, tracking how he disrupted the dominant Federer-Nadal rivalry with a raw, unfiltered intensity that often polarized fans.

Viewers can expect behind-the-scenes footage from major tournaments, glimpses of his intense training regimens, and personal moments at home. The documentary features intimate interviews with Djokovic and his family, alongside perspectives from tennis icons like Rafael Nadal, Andre Agassi, and Pete Sampras. Media personalities Mary Carillo, Howard Bryant, Christopher Clarey and Matt Futterman also add insight. 

“Nobody can touch what he’s accomplished,” says Andre Agassi in the video. “He’s the best of all-time.”

This release caps off a banner year for tennis enthusiasts on streaming platforms. The Wolf in Winter follows other major tennis projects that have captured audiences recently, including Rafael Nadal’s highly discussed documentary on Netflix, entitled “Rafa”, and the deeply personal look at women’s tennis history in the Chrissie & Martina film, entitled “Chris and Martina, the final set”
