Kostyuk Continues Hot Streak, Defeating Pegula for Eighth Consecutive Win
Marta Kostyuk has reeled off back-to-back wins over Jessica Pegula, dropping just eight games across the pair of victories.
The Ukrainian powered past the World No. 5, 6-1, 6-4, to set up a fourth-round meeting with compatriot Caty McNally.

Kostyuk has now won eight consecutive matches, including her second career title last week in Rouen, and has recorded four Top 10 wins this season. A year ago, she earned just one such victory, and she is already closing in on her career-best mark of five, achieved in 2024.
“I played Jessica earlier this year,” Kostyuk said. “She’s such a tough, solid player, so I came into this match fully prepared for a battle.”
The World No. 23 began the season in strong form, defeating three Top 10 players en route to the Brisbane final. However, an ankle injury in the first round of the Australian Open sidelined her until Indian Wells. Since returning, she has won nine of her last 11 matches, with her only losses coming to Elena Rybakina.
“I think I’ve been enjoying playing tennis more since the injury at the Australian Open,” she said. “It made me rethink how I approach the game and how much it costs me to be out here. I’m really happy with the adjustments we’ve made and the progress we’re making as a team. That’s what matters most, because I’ve never had such a long winning streak in my life.”
Kostyuk struck 20 winners to Pegula’s nine and saved 10 of 11 break points to maintain control throughout the match.
She is bidding for back-to-back quarterfinals in Madrid, and is now 7-0 on clay in 2026.
