INDIAN WELLS—The sun has set on Gael Monfils’ Sunshine Double.

Monfils, who lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4 in the Indian Wells second round, announced he won’t be playing next week’s Miami Open.

In a Q&A with fans on X, Monfils was asked if he will play ATP Masters 1000 events in Miami and Monte-Carlo.

“I’m not playing Miami, and I don’t know yet about MC,” Monfils replied.

For fans dreaming of Monfils partnering wife Elina Svitolina in doubles, it won’t happen at the French Open, however Monfils left the door open to possibly playing the US Open Mixed Doubles.

“No, I don’t think I’ll do the mixed doubles at RG but maybe at US,” Monfils said, adding a winking emoji to his response.

Former world No. 6 Monfils announced last fall that 2026 would be his farewell season to the ATP Tour.

“An exciting new generation of players is already here,” Monfils said. “And I hope they’ll enjoy their time on court as much as I have for the last two decades.”
