Arthur Fils Pulls out of Australian Open Due to Lingering Injury
Arthur Fils, much like Jack Draper, would rather come back to the ATP Tour at 100 percent.
“Sometimes stepping back is the only way forward,” 39th-ranked Fils wrote on Instagram in a short video that promoted a longer video on his YouTube channel.
Fils wrote the following in the description to the video:
“This wasn’t the start of the season I planned. After long discussions with my team, I made the decision to step away from the Australian tour. Not out of fear. Not out of doubt. But because timing matters. This episode is not an excuse. It’s the beginning of a process. I wanted to take the time to explain the context, the choices, and what comes next. To do it properly. Without shortcuts. This series will follow the work behind the scenes. The questions. The setbacks. And the steps needed to move forward.”
Fils suffered a stress fracture in his back last season and has not played since the National Bank Open in early August. He joins Draper, who recently pulled out due to lingering arm issues, as one of the biggest names to miss out on 2026’s first major.
He was in the midst of a stellar season that included three Masters quarterfinals.
