Jannik Sinner continues to cruise in Beijing.

The Italian was a man on a mission on Monday night in Beijing as he zoomed through a late speed bump to navigate his way past Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan 6-1, 7-5  to reach the semifinals at the China Open.

Sinner, the 2023 champion in Beijing, becomes the second player to reach three consecutive semifinals at the event. He will face Alex de Minaur, who advanced when Jakub Mensik retired due to injury after just five games (4-1 RET), next.

Sinner has won all ten of his previous tilts with the Aussie.

The 24-year-old world No.2 improves to 21-2 on hard courts in 2025 – he has now reached at least the semifinal in seven of his eight tournaments played this season, and he has won his last nine hard court semifinals.

He was ruthless from the start, breaking through for 2-1 in the opening set and racing through six consecutive games after Marozsan held serve in the first game.

The Italian’s willingness to be quick on the trigger forced Marozsan to play passive and he was on his back foot throughout the pair’s second career meeting.

57th-ranked Marozsan, seeking to match his career-best win (defeated No.2 Alcaraz at Rome in 2023) ramped up his aggression in the second set, beating Sinner to the punch early and serving with authority in the early going.

He had his back against the wall while serving at 3-4, 0-40, but found his way out of the game, and converted his second break point in the next game, carving a beautiful backhand volley after a sneaky net rush to take the 5-4 lead.

It was then that Sinner displayed his steel, as he flipped the script and won 12 of the final 13 points as a befuddled Marozsan lost the plot.

“We both played very well in the second set,” Sinner said. “I had some break chances at 4-3, which I couldn’t use… When he was serving for the set he made a couple of unforced errors which then helped me to come back and win in two.

“It’s psychological of course, too, but it’s also how you arrive at the moment.”

Sinner closed out his victory in 78 minutes, and improves to 40-5 overall on the season. Four of his five losses have come against Carlos Alcaraz, and the other against Alexander Bublik.
