WTA Rankings: Badosa, Raducanu Reach Career Highs
Breakout seasons of Paula Badosa and Emma Raducanu continue to hit the high notes.Indian Wells champion Badosa cracks the Top 10 for the first time with today's new WTA rankings.More: Nadal Aims for Abu Dhabi ReturnThe 23-year-old Spaniard has shown staying power this season.Badosa edged Victoria Azarenka 7-6(5), 2-6, 7-6(2) to become the first Spanish woman to win the BNP Paribas Open. It was the longest Indian Wells women's final in history and the longest WTA final of the season.This week, Badosa joins compatriot Garbine Muguruza, who is ranked No. 5, in the WTA Finals in Guadalajara.
US Open champion Raducanu rises to a career-high rank of No. 20 today.The 18-year-old Raducanu is the lone British woman ranked inside the Top 70.Heather Watson moves up one spot to No. 71, while former world No. 4 Johanna Konta falls to No. 112, which is her lowest ranking since 2015.Newlywed Jessica Pegula, who ended 2020 ranked No. 62, vaults to a career-high No. 19.
The WTA's Top 5 remains unchanged with world No. 1 Ash Barty, who pulled the plug on her 2021 season last month, followed by No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka, No. 3 Barbora Krejcikova, No. 4 Karolina Pliskova and No. 5 Muguruza.Former Top 10 players Angelique Kerber and Belinda Bencic both dropped a bit.
