Andreescu Withdraws from Roland Garros
Canada’s Bianca Andreescu will not play at Roland Garros.The 2019 US Open champion and current World No. 7 has not been in action since injuring her left knee during last year’s WTA Finals at Shenzhen, China.
The news comes via the Canadian press, which acquired a statement from Andreescu’s agent.Andreescu, 20, came of age last year on the WTA Tour, winning titles at Indian Wells and the Rogers Cup, before becoming the first player in history to win the US Open on her main draw debut.Many believed that she was in Paris, based on a recent Instagram post that showed her posing with the city in the background, and took it to mean that she might be preparing to play her first Grand Slam since winning in New York.
Injuries have been a consistent theme during Andreescu’s career, however. She was plagued by a back injury prior to 2019.Qualifying at Roland Garros is set to begin on Monday. Main draw play begins Sunday, September 27.Andreescu joins World No.1 Ashleigh Barty and World No.3 Naomi Osaka as one of three Top 10 players that will not enter the main draw. ]]>
