Andreescu Earns Canadian Athlete of the Year Honors
The 2019 season is over, but Bianca Andreescu continues winning major titles.The US Open champion made history as the first tennis player to earn the Lou Marsh Trophy annually awarded to Canada's Athlete of the Year.Watch: Best Abs on WTA Tour"Wow, I'm so thankful for this award," Andreescu said. "I was not expecting it and to be the first tennis player to win is even more surreal."None of my success this year would be possible without the support from all of Canada.The 19-year-old Andreescu was a unanimous selection for the award named after former Toronto Star sports editor Lou Marsh. She beat out sprinter Andre De Grasse, NHL goalie Jordan Binnington, golfer Brooke Henderson and pitcher Mike Soroka to make history as the first tennis player to earn the honor.
