WTA Hong Kong Postponed Indefinitely Due to Protests
After a summer full of violent protests in Hong Kong the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open has elected to postpone. The sixth edition of the event has been indefinitely postponed, per the AP.The tournament had been scheduled to be held from Oct. 5-13 at Victoria Park.Tournament organizers said the event would be put back “in light of the present situation” but did not give a new date.“In light of the present situation, Hong Kong Tennis Association and the WTA are announcing a postponement of the 2019 Hong Kong Tennis Open,” organizers said in a statement. “We strive to maintain a high standard of the event for all participants, players and the fans in particular.According to Tennis.Life, the event at Tianjin has added a pair of direct acceptances to its main draw and increased the qualifying draw by eight player to give more opportunities to players left in the dark due to Hong Kong postponement.Dayana Yastremska, who defeated China’s Wang Qiang in the 2018 final, is the defending champion at the event. ]]>
