(September 30, 2012) -- Things are getting very interesting with just over three weeks left until the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships in Istanbul. Sam Stosur pushed closer to Li Na with a semifinal appearance in Tokyo this week (Li fell in third-round action to Caroline Wozniacki) but left some valuable points on the table when she could not get past Nadia Petrova in the semis.
Meanwhile Caroline Wozniacki and Marion Bartoli stayed within striking distance (Wozniacki reached the QFs while Bartoli was eliminated in third-round action), while Dominika Cibulkova was eliminated from the race.
With 1000 points going to the winner of this week’s China Open, get your popcorn ready because there are sure to be a few blockbusters.
Stosur, who is now just 312 points behind Li for the 8th spot, could face Marion Bartoli in the third round, while Li Na will have to face red-hot Nadia Petrova in her second-round match in Beijing.
