(October 30, 2011) On Sunday, the top seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga ousted Juan Martin del Potro 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4, in two hours and 28 minutes on Vienna’s indoor-hard courts. He is improving his chance to qualify for the ATP World Tour Finals in London for the remaining three spots.

The Frenchman will rise two sports to the World No. 7 when the rankings are released, past Mardy Fish.

He improved his record against the Argentine to 1-3 career wins in their head-to-head series. He shot out 25 aces to del Potro’s seven, defended his serve three out of four attempts, and only allowing 27 points to be won on his serve- five of which were double faults.

The first set went to the World No. 15 because Tsonga was unable to convert breaks in his favor but the match completely changed in the remaining sets and he won three of seven break-point opportunities.

He is now 48 wins to 20 losses in 2011 and won his second title of the season, Metz and Vienna.

Meanwhile, Bob and Mike Bryan gained their 75th win of their career and seventh of the year against Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor. Both will compete at the year-end finals but today, the top-ranked Bryans defeated the double’s World No. 3 team 7-6(10), 6-3 in 74 minutes.

The Americans won 54 percent of the total points and only allowed their competitors to earn 15 points off of their 67 serves, 81 percent on the first serve. They never were broken on serve but converted one of four opportunities.
