Juan Martin del Potro is out of the Sony Open in Miami. The 2009 U.S. Open champion announced the news on his Facebook page today, saying “During these days I was training at Crandon Park and followed the treatment to try to play in Miami, but still feel pain in the wrist and I'm not in a competitive way to enter the field.”

The 25-year-old struggled with the injury in 2013, but managed to have a fine season nonetheless. But symptoms have since exacerbated, and Del Potro was forced to pull out of Dubai and Indian Wells before pulling the plug on his Miami campaign early Wednesday.
“I feel very sad because it's a special tournament for the amount of Argentinean and Latino fans in general,” said Del Potro. “In the coming days I will visit my doctor again to determine the steps to follow.”
Del Potro, who took 20 days off from tennis after the Australian Open in the hope the he could rehabilitate the wrist, made no mention of whether or not he is strongly considering a second wrist surgery this year. In 2010, Del Potro underwent surgery on his right wrist. He would later return to be the ATP's comeback player of the year in 2011.
Del Potro was replaced by Benjamin Becker in the Miami draw.
