(July 1, 2011) Second seeds Katarina Srebotnik and Kveta Peschke enter their first Wimbledon doubles final after dominating sixth seeds Elena Vesnina and Sania Mirza 6-1, 6-3 on Friday.
As a team, 30-year-old Srebotnik and 35-year-old Peschke, made it to the finals in Roland Garros in 2010 and won the Eastbourne title on grass this year.
Srebotnik of Slovenia has made it to the finals of 2007 Roland Garros and 2007 Wimbledon with Ai Sugiyama and the 2006 US Open final with Dinara Safina. She won five slam titles and made it six finals in mixed doubles Grand Slams.
The Czech and the Slovenian started strong and broke their opponents twice in the first set and the second set. Surprisingly, the duo only shot one winner and two unforced errors.
They had a strong service game 84 percent on the first serve and 79 percent on the second serve in which they only had to use 14 times. Mirza and Vesnina hit five winners and unforced errors.
The top seeds left in the draw will play either the unseeded Sabine Lisicki and Samantha Stosur team or the unseeded Marina Erakovic and Tamarine Tanasugarn team, whose semifinal match was suspended because of darkness at 6-3, 4-6, 5-5. Play will resume tomorrow morning.
A $400,000 purse is on the line.
