21-year-old Sloane Stephens and coach Paul Annacone have parted ways, according to this report from USA Today’s Doug Robson on his Twitter feed:
Stephens, who hired the American coach to begin her 2014 campaign, had her streak of making the second week of a major snapped at six at Wimbledon last month.
The current world No. 22 had high hopes about partnering with Annacone. But the American, who had previously led Pete Sampras and Roger Federer, was unable to guide Stephens beyond the quarterfinals of a single WTA tour-level even this season.
Annacone tweeted the following after the news broke:
After beginning the year at No. 13 in the world, Stephens has slipped to her current perch at No. 22. She owns a 17-15 record in 2014.
