(March 2, 2011) Former No.1 Serena Williams was reportedly hospitalized on Monday at Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
The 13-time Grand Slam Winner was said to have undergone emergency treatment for a hematoma that resulted from a pulmonary embolism, a blood clot to lung.
"Last week, Serena suffered from a pulmonary embolism which was discovered upon her return to L.A. She had been in New York for doctor appointments for the ongoing issues with her foot" said Williams spokesman Nicole Chabot in a statement to People Magazine.
The issue was discovered after her return to L.A., where she was attending Elton John’s AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party on Sunday.
Previously, Williams had been in New York for doctor appointments for the ongoing issues with her foot." On Tuesday night, Williams posted this message to her Twitter account.

After cutting her foot in Germany, the 29-year-old has not played competitively since winning last year's Wimbledon title and has undergone at least two operations on her foot during her extended layoff.
The, now, No.11 player was most recently expected to participate in the "Nike Clash of Champions" at the University of Oregon, but was forced once again to withdraw.
"I'm disappointed that I won't be able to play at the NIKE Clash of the Champions as I had anticipated," Williams said in a statement. "I'm thrilled, however, to still be able to participate in the Family Tennis Festival and in the exhibition as a referee during the mixed doubles."
"I changed for the vanity fair event. I'm wearing a
