(May 29, 2010) The baseline meets the goal line as tennis takes to the NFL in July.
Serena Williams is a minority owner of the Miami Dolphins and in July, Williams, Maria Sharapova, Andy Roddick and John Isner will bring tennis to Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
The inaugural Cowboys Tennis Slam is set for July 10th, six days after Wimbledon ends.
World No. 1 Williams will face Sharapova and Roddick will play Isner in the exhibition event. The court will be set up across the end zone with seating reconfigured for about 20,000 fans. The first of the best-of-three set matches starts at 7:30 p.m.
"I'm a massive, the ultimate American, football fan. I just think it's such a great thing," Williams said following her 6-1, 6-1 thrashing of Germany's Julia Goerges in the French Open second round today. "Yeah, we'll see."
Cowboys Stadium has hosted basketball, bull riding, soccer and boxing since it opened.
"This will be an exciting event for us to hold at Cowboys Stadium," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. "We have seen the flexibility our new stadium has for holding spectacular events of all kinds and this event should be like no other. Being able to attract some of the best tennis players in the world under one roof for a night like this will be something special."
Tickets for the Cowboys Tennis Slam are priced at $75, $100, $135, $175, $225 and $275. Tickets go on sale Saturday, June 5, at 10:00 a.m. through Ticketmaster by visiting online at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling toll-free, (800) 745-3000. Tickets are also available at the Cowboys Stadium Ticket Office.
Two additional ticket options are also available for the event: A $400 package that includes floor seating and passes to a evening cocktail reception and meet and greet with some of the players on the night prior to the event; the second package is a $500 VIP Front Row seat that includes the Friday night event as well as a private meet and greet Saturday with all of the participants before the event.
