The nation’s pride, Samantha Stosur has taken her first match against the unranked American, Lauren Davis. In straight sets 6-1, 6-1. The 5th-ranked Australian showed some serious force this evening as she played a seriously aggressive match to set the scene in what should be a promising display of hope for the future of Australian tennis.

Jelena Jankovic has taken Alla Kudryavtseva 6-0, 7-6 (7-5). The 8th-ranked Serbian easily took the first set, but struggled to hold on in the second one, narrowly beating her Russian opponent during the tie-break.

Michael Russell finally defeated Matthew Ebden 6-3, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6, after what began to feel like the second coming of the John Isner/Nicolas Mahut match during Wimbledon.
