Set 1: Bouchard to Serve
Who looked more nervous in the tunnel? Too close to call.
And the first major final between two players born in the 90’s is underway. Bouchard holds to start, and Petra replies with a hold…
First blood goes to Kvitova who ABSOLUTELY LASHES a crosscourt forehand winner to break in the third game. …
We’ll see about that, Pammie. It’s deuce in Petra’s second serving game, so Bouchard holding her own, and has struck a few nice returns.
In one of the best points we’ve seen all week, Kvitova plays stunning defense to secure the hold and a 3-1 lead. We did not know Kvitova had that type of defense in her playbook.
Most people blown away by the power of Petra, but Bouchard is gritty and secures a big hold to stay within a touch in set one.
Kvitova holds to 15 for a 4-2 lead.
Kvitova breaks for 5-2, smashing a winner off of a Bouchard sitter that was created by the Czech’s pace.
Kvitova rips another return to break for the set. It’s 1-0 Kvitova, and she’s been stunning thus far. What will Bouchard’s reply be?
What do the numbers tell us????
Set Two: Kvitova to serve
Yes, it’s jaw-dropping stuff from Petra. Don’t know if there is much Bouchard can do about it at the moment. The Canadian quickly falls behind 2-0, and it is happening fast out here.
Bouchard rallied to deuce from 40-15, but two big serves, the second an ace that kisses the chalk down the middle, lead to another hold from Kvitova. 3-0 in set two.
Kvitova continues to overwhelm. She plays another remarkable point to get to deuce, lashing a running forehand winner. Then hits mammoth returns to take the next two points and secures another break for 4-0.
5-0 Petra. Poor Genie. Not much she could do in this match.
Just nothing Eugenie Bouchard could to about this one, try as she may. Petra finishes off the bagel for her second Wimbledon title, 6-3, 6-0.
Just a glorious match for the Czech. No other way to put it. And the numbers do reflect the domination
