(May 29, 2011)The top seeds of the women's draw are being picked off on daily basis. Taking advantage of her third match point opportunity on Sunday, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova defeated World No. 3 and two-time-slam finalist Vera Zvonareva 7-6(4), 2-6, 6-2, to start the morning off with a big upset.

This marks the 14th seed's first quarterfinal in a major tournament and best result on the clay courts. She will likely be joining the top 10 after next week in the rankings.

Pavlyuchenkova's winners almost matched her errors at 45 winners to 41 unforced errors. Zvonareva won more of the total points, by two, at 100 of 198 points.

Zvonareva took control of her serve and won the second set but up 2-1 in the third she lost the next five games.

The countrywomen share a tied head-to-head series wins. Zvonareva beat Pavlyuchenkova earlier this year in Stuttgart.

To the press, the top-ranked Russian said it best prior to the match, "Seedings is nothing- you have to play your matches."

The top seeds left favor the likes for fouth seed Victoria Azarenka, fifth seed Francesca Schiavone, sixth seed Li Na, and seventh seed Maria Sharapova. The rest of the seeds drop from 10th and downwards. Meanwhile unseeded Gisela Dulko and Ekaterina Makarova fight for their chance at the French Open quarterfinals.
